What’s Happening in Our Rooms…

Joeys News…
Hi and welcome to all our new Joeys and their families.
We hope that your children are settling in and if there is anything we can do to make this settling process any easier, please don’t hesitate to lets us know. Over the past month the children have shown interest in music, movement and drawing. There are a few Picasso’s out there and we love to encourage their interest.

We spend most of the beginning of the year trying to make the process of settling into a new environment and new adults in your child’s life as easy as possible. Our day is about providing comfort and support to the children and building trust between educator and child. In doing this we are helping your child/ren have a sense of belonging to this environment and help them to be confident learners. Once your little person is settled, we would like to incorporate some new activities into our program such as; cooking, counting and climbing.

Wombat Tales…
Hi Wombat Families
February and March have been very busy months for the children. Learning to use the toilet and being confident in areas of hygiene. The children have been involved in inquiry based activities that have been challenging and extending their knowledge of the environment we live in.
Role play is a major part of learning in the age group. The children are constructing words into sentences and involving their friends in their role play.
Group time is our time out for learning. We use visual cues to enable the children to grasp concepts such as names, colours, numbers and transitions from each area.
Most importantly, we spend quality time with each & every child to help them grow and learn as they process each new challenge that they face each day. If you have any questions or would like to talk about your child’s development, please come and see Julie, Linda or Shaunie.

Echidna Stories…
Hello Echidna Families,
This year the children have been interested in dinosaurs. To extend on this interest we have been learning about fossils, how they form, the equipment that we need to use when digging up fossils. The children experienced digging for real bones in the sandpit as I buried some in there. We have also been talking about what dinosaurs eat, some eat meat so they are carnivores, some eat plants so they are herbivores.
Another interest that has only just come up is space and rocket ships. We have been taking about the different colours of planets and their name, and we have been using our knowledge so far to make our own planets to hang up in our room. Fire engines and fire fighters is another relatively new interest for some children. The children enjoy dressing up as fire fighters and using cardboard tubes as hoses. To extend on this interest we would like to organize a real fire engine to come to the centre.

Possum Escapades…
Hello from the possums room! We have been very busy for the past month.
We finished off our project on all about me and have moved onto some very interesting topics that keep us busy throughout the week. As our program is an emergent curriculum we have been searching for some interests from the children.
On Mondays we have been looking into butterflies including their life cycle, this evolved from Abby questioning how butterflies fly, after seeing one flying in her bedroom.
Tuesdays are quite often our busiest day of the week. We head over to the library at the school. This is giving the children familiarity with other environments. We ask that your child is here by 9am . Also could we ask that you dress your child in closed in shoes and not thongs. When we return from the Library, we enjoy a play outside before our cultural lesson with Linda.
Our bathroom is becoming the park/ creek that is parallel to the Kindy. The children did this, as it followed on from our nature walk & leaf painting. We took an excursion to the park to take photos & observe what was happening. Upon returning to the centre, we used what we had learnt to transform our bathroom. We painted leaves, duck collages & a creek complete with rocks, threaded flowers & weaved fish. If you haven’t taken a look, it is a fantastic creation.
Evie decided to turn part of our home corner into a shop. We spent a lot of time brainstorming & setting up our shop in our class. Over the coming weeks, we will be learning about money & extending our counting skills. If you have any items at home that we could use to enhance our children’s learning, please bring them in to share.
Fridays, our children have been exploring space which emerged from Miles & Anthony. Our children have written their own space stories and shared them with their classmates. We have constructed a space area in our room, complete with space ships, stars, ufo’s and planets. The children are quite involved in this interest and we are hoping to extend this through all areas of learning.
As you can see, we have been very busy and our room is starting to take shape. We are always open to any suggestions to help extend our learning. Please don’t hesitate to talk to Jodie, Michelle or Taylor.

As you can see, our Centre has been busy with a wide variety of topics and activities. It has been a very busy start to the year and we are very excited to see what will happen in the next few weeks.
Stay Tuned for more Information!
